Should OxyContin, Vicodin, Lortab, Xanax, and Additional Addictive and Deadly Drugs Continue to be Easily Available to our Children on the Internet?

"The unscrupulous distribution of addictive and dangerous prescription drugs continues to be a major problem on the internet in our country," according to Larry Golbom, host of The Prescription Addiction Radio Show. This week the topic will be to challenge the head of the Judiciary Committee, John Conyers, and our congressional leaders, in helping us stop the growing narcotic prescription internet sites. Listen to The Prescription Addiction Radio Show on WGUL 860 AM (www.860wgul.com) on Sunday night, September 21 - 9:05 p.m. Eastern.

Tampa, FL September 16, 2008 -- Attention John Conyers and the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee: Important Legislation Pending on the Ease of Obtaining OxyContin on the Internet is the next topic on The Prescription Addiction Radio Show - Breaking the Silence.

In memory of Ryan Haight, an 18 year-old young man who died on February 12, 2001 of an overdose of narcotics he easily obtained over the internet, H.R. Bill 6353 is awaiting passage by the House of Representatives. The identical bill in the Senate, S. 980: Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008 passed by unanimous consent last April.

The unscrupulous distribution of addictive and dangerous prescription drugs continues to be a major problem on the internet in our country
The death toll continues to increase and John Conyers and the Judiciary Committee should be asked to explain why this bill has not been placed before the full House for a vote. Is our Congress going to finally put the welfare of our children in front of the lobbyists of the drug companies or not?
With the knowledge of how dangerous these prescription narcotics are, having our elected leaders not trying to protect people is irresponsible. The passage of H.R. Bill 6353 will send a message to the American people that we do have a House of Representatives that cares about the 'silent epidemic' that is killing thousands
In my State of Florida, almost 70% of all drug deaths include a controlled prescription drug. This legislation will be a message to the drug companies that the indiscriminate distribution of their products, with little oversight, is coming to an end.
When passed by the House of Representatives, the Ryan Haight legislation will begin to rewrite how online pharmacies can process prescriptions and send out what are labeled as "controlled substances" by the Controlled Substances Act passed in 1970. These drugs include OxyContin, Vicodin, Lortab, Duragesic, Methadone, Valium, Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Ambien, Lunesta, etc. and their corresponding manufactured generic products. According to Larry G, host of the Prescription Drug Addiction Radio Show, these drugs are estimated to be part of killing more people than guns in our country every year. Larry urges, " The death toll continues to increase and John Conyers and the Judiciary Committee should be asked to explain why this bill has not been placed before the full House for a vote. Is our Congress going to finally put the welfare of our children in front of the lobbyists of the drug companies or not?"

At present, drugs ordered over the internet have no guarantee of even having a pharmacist or licensed individual overseeing the business. The Ryan Haight Act will require the license of the pharmacy, the Pharmacist in Charge listed, and most importantly, will not allow the utilization of on-line questionnaires to obtain narcotics and the additional drugs defined as "controlled substances".

An individual ordering from an internet pharmacy will be required to see a doctor "face to face" in order to acquire the drugs. According to Larry G, the rising negative outcomes from these prescription narcotics (drug companies call them pain pills and the addicts call them Oxys and Roxies) is well documented.

"With the knowledge of how dangerous these prescription narcotics are, having our elected leaders not trying to protect people is irresponsible. The passage of H.R. Bill 6353 will send a message to the American people that we do have a House of Representatives that cares about the 'silent epidemic' that is killing thousands," says the outspoken radio host who is also a registered pharmacist. "In my State of Florida, almost 70% of all drug deaths include a controlled prescription drug. This legislation will be a message to the drug companies that the indiscriminate distribution of their products, with little oversight, is coming to an end."

With guests who have been affected negatively by online pharmacies, this Sunday's show will be extremely informative.

No, I don't think anyone should be given Addictive Prescriptions because they can be deadly!

Honestly, they should just Legalize Marijuana.
That Has NO side effects at all, besides being Hungry, Happy, and Sleepy. It also cannot be Addictive and you cannot overdose on it!

That's my story and I'm stickin to it!!!

great late comment cus its already passed if it stays on the internet fine. But it won t next thing you know sessions far rt and fienstien far left came to an agreement. whenever something passes unanimously its the majority of people who get screwed. Ryan s deae damn shame mabee daddy should not have let his credit card out in the open ne1 over 5 knows its a jungle in the internet. Now i suspect doctors treating patients will be told even more what they should or should not prescribe by lawmakers who prob don t even know what the scripts r 4. Ive seen these idiots restrict good dr to the point that their scared to treat legitament problems w proven prescript that wk. cus their scared sum overzelous prosecuter will send one of their stupid thugs in their to arrest them. They know where this is goin why don t you morons just get it over with put all practitioners in jail or fire them and just have asst D. A. take over the hosp and dr offices. Thank you rep conyers 4 at least trying to quell the overreaction. I heard the hearing and he made sensible comments maybe he kept it back cus he to knows where we are headed. Im 35 my dr and i don t need want or have ever asked for your help or advice u know y cuz u invaders of dr patient privacy arent drs I read sum polls today in which over 50% of you can t even answer basic civics ? s. Maybe you should learn that 1st b4 playing dr. U all do know that its always easy to get a unanimous vote when you hide behind the we gotta protect our children the same cry was used during salem witch burnings and to go up against integration of races go head kp hiding behind the"children" we will become a worse country for it. In my final sentence i will try to ponder nething a politician has done that was truly noble w no self serving purposes to it. hmmmm. 8 min later 1964 voting rights act but that wasnt cus of politicians that was cus of years of M L King, Rosa Parks and yes Malcolm x and the black panthers who the pols portrayed as criminals and im white as snow but try to find a paper go way back that mentioned the good that the panthers did for thier communities and children. Nope voting rts werent cus of pols. Johnson had 2 twist 3 repugs arms to get his self serving bill through. he was just scared that the blacks would stand up 4 themselves more and wanted to stop the protests. So no they ve done nothing noble since possibly 1937 when the new deal finally picked up steam. you will all get yours in the afterlife when satan spreads his wings 4 u to enter where all 535 of u belong Peace

You can get xanax on the internet, rarely Vicodin and NEVER OxyContin! Besides these drugs are easy to obtain from doctors here in the US. I was put on Xanax @ 14 and have been on it for the last 11 years, from local doctors. Everytime I have a headache or cough i get Vicodin. And I was on morphine for a year after a car acciden I got in on Xanax
