Head Start for Gary Papa Run. Contribution Accepted by 6ABC Sports Reporter Jamie Apody at Philadelphia Cancer Treatment's Workout Against Cancer

Shelley Schwartz, founding chair of Prostate Health International, and 6ABC sports reporter Jamie Apody accept a contribution from Drs. Larry Belkoff and Phillip Ginsberg, partners with the Philadelphia Cancer Treatment Radiation Oncology Center. Apody will co-chair this year's Father's Day Run 4 Your Life for prostate cancer in memory of her friend and colleague, Gary Papa. Belkoff and Ginsberg presented the donation at the Center's Workout Against Cancer on September 25.

Bala Cynwyd, PA October 4, 2009 -- It was a day of celebration for all who attended the Philadelphia Cancer Treatment Radiation Oncology Center Workout Against Cancer on September 25. Cancer survivors told stories of resilience and gratitude, people toured the new state-of-the-art center specializing in prostate and bladder cancer, and Urologic Consultants of Southeastern Pennsylvania gave Prostate Health International's Run 4 Your Life an early boost with a $3,000 contribution.

"Our goal for the day was to increase awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection," says doctor Phillip Ginsberg, urologist and co-founder of the Center. We are pleased with the number of men who came out on a beautiful afternoon and took advantage of free prostate cancer screenings and information. One in six men will develop prostate cancer, so it's important to discuss your risk and the benefits of screening with your doctor."

An estimated 200 people attended and 30 men underwent prostate cancer screenings that day. They also listened to talks on cancer prevention and treatment, including the role of nutrition. Families enjoyed playing basketball with the Drexel University men's basketball team, golf instruction with golf pros from the Golf Academy, fitness training tips from The Philadelphia Aquatic and Fitness Club in Bala Cynwyd, chair massages from Independence Blue Cross, music provided by WDAS Radio and Patty Jackson, and plenty of healthy, tasty food and drink. A highlight of the day came when Ginsberg and his partner, urologist doctor Larry Belkoff, presented the donation to Prostate Heath International. Food and drinks were provided by Houlihan's, Whole Foods, Aunt Burta's Kitchen and Shalom Catering. Other special guest included men's basketball coach, Phil Martelli from Saint Joseph's University.

"The Father's Day Run 4 Your Life has grown every year, and it's important to us to see that continue," Belkoff said. "We are proud to partner with an organization so committed to the education and research needed to give every man the chance to win this race."

Urology has long been at the forefront of minimally invasive technologies for diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract disorders. The global recession has impacted the urological endoscope market however, with slower growth than had previously been expected. The world market for urological endoscopes is projected to reach just over $530 million by the end of 2011. The economic slowdown in traditionally strong markets such as the US has led to a dip in sales.
